Registering with USA Lacrosse
Once accepted as a coach with Middleton Youth Lacrosse Club, you'll be required to register with USA Lacrosse, our national governing body, to ensure access to essential resources and compliance with best practices. This registration process involves becoming a member and fulfilling certification requirements, all tailored to support effective and safe coaching. The entire experience is handled online through your USA Lacrosse account, complete with helpful email prompts for steps like background checks, and it's user-friendly for coaches at every level. Middleton Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse require our coaches to achieve at least bronze certification.
Here's a step-by-step overview based on the official process:
- Become a USA Lacrosse Member: Start by signing up for a Coach Membership on the USA Lacrosse website (usalacrosse.com/membership). This is the foundation for all coaching activities and provides access to resources, insurance, and certification. You'll need to provide basic personal information (name, email, address) and complete an online form.
- Background Check: After membership activation, you'll receive an email with instructions to initiate a free background screening. This is required for all coach members and must be started within 15 calendar days of joining/renewing. The check is conducted through a third-party service and typically takes a few days to complete.
- Abuse Prevention Training: As part of Bronze certification (the baseline for our coaches), you must complete the free online Abuse Prevention course. This is accessed via your USA Lacrosse account dashboard.
- Other Required Courses for Bronze Certification: Bronze is included with your USA Lacrosse Coach membership and requires completing several short online courses that focus on safety and risk management: Cardiac Care, Concussion Awareness, Cultural Competency, and an annual rules test.
