Team Assignments

Middleton Youth Lacrosse Club (MYLC) assigns players to teams in a manner that promotes fair competition, skill development, and a positive experience for all participants, in full compliance with Badgerland Lacrosse Association (BLA) rules. This policy applies to all age levels and ensures balanced teams where multiple squads exist.

General Guidelines

  • Balanced Teams: When MYLC has more than one team at any age level (typically occurring in 8U and 10U, but potentially in 12U and 14U as the program grows), all teams at that level are created equal. No "A" or "B" teams, or divisions based on experience (e.g., first-year/second-year), are permitted on the BLA schedule. Assignments are made based on factors such as age, skill level, and overall balance to establish a "level playing field."
  • Additional Tournaments (12U and 14U): If roster numbers exceed 28 players at the 12U or 14U level, MYLC may form additional tournament teams for 1-2 extra events beyond the regular season. Tournament rosters will be selected based on availability, skill, participation, and attendance at practices and games, with the goal of maximizing competitiveness while providing development opportunities for all players. Regular season teams remain balanced per BLA rules, and tournament participation does not affect primary team assignments.

Assignments are finalized by the club board or designated coordinators after registration closes. Families will be notified of team placements via email. This policy supports safe, equitable play and may be updated as needed to align with league guidelines.

Friend Requests and Sibling Placement

The Middleton Lacrosse Club is committed to creating balanced, competitive teams while fostering a positive, inclusive environment for all players. Our team placement process prioritizes skill equity, team balance, and the overall needs of the program. At the same time, we recognize the importance of family logistics and social connections, particularly for younger players. This policy outlines how sibling and friend requests are handled, explains the structure of our practices and programs, and describes the decision-making process to ensure transparency and fairness.

Friend Requests

  • Each player may submit one reciprocal (mutual) friend request exclusively during the registration process via the official registration form.
  • For a request to be considered, both players must request each other, and both requests must be submitted before the registration deadline.
  • Friend requests must be submitted at the time of registration. Requests made directly to coaches, coordinators, or board members—at evaluations, practices, games, or any other time—will not be accepted or considered.
  • The club will make every reasonable effort to accommodate mutual friend requests when doing so does not conflict with higher priorities.
  • Friend requests are not guaranteed. Primary considerations in roster creation include: competitive team balance, skill equity across teams, and overall program needs (e.g., total number of players, coach availability, and positional requirements).
  • Non-mutual or late requests will not be considered.

Sibling Placement

  • Siblings in the same age group will automatically be placed on the same team to support family logistics and convenience.
  • If a family prefers that siblings be placed on separate teams, this preference must be communicated directly to the appropriate program coordinator (boyscoordinator@middletonlacrosse.com for boys programs or girlscoordinator@middletonlacrosse.com for girls programs) before team assignments are finalized. Failure to notify the club in advance will result in siblings being placed together by default.
